Our Editorial Practices

Unlike almost every other imprint, we respond to every submission with specific feedback. We also ensure that each editor works on one submission at a time.

During open submission periods, we strive to acknowledge each submission within 2 business days and to respond within 4 business weeks.

Editors begin by reading a meaningful portion of your submission closely. Then, one of two things happens:

  • If the editors decide that your manuscript needs a significant amount of work, they respond with a brief, detailed summary and explain what you can do to improve your manuscript and how JLRB Press can help.
  • If the editors consider your submission ready, or partially ready, for publication, they begin to review it and contact you to schedule a free, 1-hour consultation to discuss your manuscript.
Important:
  • We accept submissions that have previously appeared online or in print (in part or in whole). You must ensure that the copyright of all submissions belongs to you and, if you have assigned any rights, that you have the necessary permissions to republish the works.
  • Our written feedback and initial consultations are always completely free for all authors. However, to be able to serve the most applicants, we invite those who have already submitted a manuscript to wait for six months to resubmit.
